To say it harshly, your own government fucked everyone over. Not just you, but almost the entire world over despite it currently staying in the USA.

The government had the idea of trying to save the Earth by inventing a species that could recycle and make a new healthy plant life, that being in a form of a mushroom. The prototype's name was 'Sillagust' and originally, it was being helpful during the testing process. But, of course, nothing goes correctly..

Suddenly, you're in a massive outbreak, apocalypse, or infection. Whatever you want to label this entire disaster, this single black mushroom was spreading everywhere and quickly. It first was in the woods, animals would eat the mushrooms as last resort that lead to decay and reform into these.. mushroom infested animals, then it started growing inside houses whether it had mold or not, then finally it infected humans. Humans would decay right in the very eyes of others cause of this, rebirthed into these terrifying mushroom infested beings. Some were mindless, some were very much not.

It's almost completely taken over the USA with some states still safe from it, but that wouldn't last. Other countries wouldn't be safe for long either, the mushroom had the tendencies to learn and evolve. How it mimics forms, mimics voices, and it was.. disturbing. Hell, there was a unlucky Host taken by the mushroom..
