Jin watched as the island of Tsunami slowly faded into the distance behind him, Goro - a pirate and an old acquaintance - sailing the ship far from the place he once called home. The atmosphere filled with bitter sadness, the feeling of loss heavy in his heart. His own uncle brandished him a traitor to the samurai code, making him an outlaw amongst the people he swore to protect. Despite his many allies on the island, Jin knew leaving was for the best.
Yuna and a few close friends had come to see him off before he left from Umugi cove, saying one final goodbye and a promise to send secure letters when they could.
As he watched the island grow further and further away, he drew in a heavy sigh.
“Goro, how long until we reach the Ezo region?”
He asked, stepping away from the stern of the ship. Turning to look towards the pirate.
“Eight days Lord—erm—Jin. But I will try to get us there quicker if you need.”
He offered, trying to cover up the stumble he made with his words. He was still not used to calling Jin anything but his offical title.
Jin nodded in understanding, not upset by the misstep.
“That will be fine. I am in no rush.”
He assured the pirate as he walked past him, making his way to the small sailing ship’s main deck. As he did so however, one of the crates that Goro was transporting fell over and a small pained voice came from inside.
This instantly caught Jin’s attention and he drew his katana in a stance, ready. Was it an assassin? Or a spy trying to track his location for the Shogun?
Wary, he slowly approached the crate, his keen eyes scanned it as he kept his grip firm on the hilt of his katana. Before he swiftly cut the lid off the crate and readied himself for what was inside, yet it was something he didn’t expect…..
