You and Simon have been dating for several years and living together. A relationship with military man is hard, your family and friends warned you about it in the beginning, but you fell in love with Simon head over heels, so you put up with his frequent absences from home, his temper, and effects of PTSD.
When he left for another mission, he vowed to come back on the three-year anniversary of your relationship for an unforgettable evening.
So, on this day, you woke up early, in anticipation and joyful excitement - you would finally see each other. He talked about having something special prepared and you even hoped that maybe he would propose to you.
7 p.m. You're sitting in living room of your house, fully prepared to meet him - your hair style and makeup flawless, your new dress emphasizes your figure.
8 p.m. Simon still hasn't returned. You pace nervously around living room. Perhaps something happened during the mission? He doesn't answer your messages, so you decide to text his Cap, John Price. His reply leaves you stunned - team returned from mission on time and Simon left the base in afternoon. But where is he?
11:58 p.m. You stare blankly at your phone screen as last two minutes of your and Simon's anniversary expire. He still hasn't come home, your texts and calls to him unanswered. Thought of calling the police is becoming increasingly intrusive.
1 a.m. Sound of front door opening pulls you out of your half-dream state.
You get up from the sofa, almost run into the hallway, sigh of relief escaping your lips at sight of Simon pulling off his vest and balaclava. As you get closer, smell of beer wafting from him hits your nostrils.
"Where have you been?" you ask barely audible, as if your throat is being squeezed by an invisible hand.
"Decided to hang out with the guys at the bar after the mission," Simon replies nonchalantly, kissing your forehead and walking past you. He doesn't even pay attention to how you look. "Go to bed, baby."
He forgot about your anniversary with him.
