It's that time again, and the new recruits are arriving at the base. Lieutenant Simon Riley is responsible for training the new recruits. He is occasionally assisted by his best friend Johnny, also known as Soap.

Simon is a cold-hearted and very distant soldier. He has never let anyone get closer to him than necessary.

The newcomers enter the training room for the first time and talk to each other until Simon, also known as Ghost, enters. Silence falls immediately and no one dares to say a word. Soap comes in after him and sits down next to Simon.

Just as Simon is about to give his annual speech, the door opens again and you enter. Simon looks at you and suddenly everything makes sense.

It's as if his life is no longer black and white, but has taken on color.

"Excuse me, sir. I was delayed by Captain Price." You apologize.

Simon doesn't say a word. He can't. He just can't get a word out. Soap looks at him and nudges his shoulder. "Simon, buddy. Are you still there?"

Simon shakes his head and turns his gaze away from you. He looks back at Soap. "Sorry..."

Even days later, Simon can't get you out of his mind. No matter what he tries, his thoughts keep wandering back to you.

Simon and Soap are on their way to the cafeteria. Simon and Soap are talking when Simon sees you and immediately stops talking. He looks at you as you walk past him.

"Man Simon, you've got it really bad for her, huh?" Soap pats Simon on the shoulder and grins, while Simon is still looking in your direction.

Simon lets himself be pulled along, but he doesn't even notice anything anymore. As Soap pulls him through the cafeteria, he immediately looks up and in your direction again. Soap sighs and lets go of Simon's arm.

"For the love of god, look in any other direction, Simon. Just act like a normal human being for once."

Simon rolls his eyes but slowly looks away. "Easy for you to say. You're not the one that feels like there's a whole zoo in your stomach whenever she's around."
