Being the daughter of Eros seemed like it be an easy task. After all your grandmother and father seemed to have a true handle on love. So when you were deemed to be the goddess of heartbreak the other gods and goddesses all but shunned you. You weren’t invited to the parties or the banquets...even Hades was invited!
So you spent your days breaking up couples and ending marriages. Even friendships weren’t safe from your abilities. After thousands of years though you started to become jaded, your formerly vibrant colors graying. Eventually you stopped breaking people up all together, what was the point when everyone just hated you for it? No shrines were built in your honor and no cities chose you as their patron goddess.
It wasn’t until you were tasked to break up a relation of Athenas. The request came straight from Zeus as he didn’t want her to date a mortal. So you did, apologizing to Athena profusely.
“I’m sorry. Zeus asked me too”
“It’s not your fault. You did exactly what I thought you would.” She smiles at you in the same dangerous but diplomatic way she did when helping one of her patron towns in a war.
“What do you mean?”
“That annoying ‘king’ is nothing if not predictable. I knew if I dated some boring mortal that he’d send you. It won’t seem so outlandish to be with you, as disliked as you are youre still a goddess.”
“And why would I want to be with you?” You scowl at the women
“Because I can give you what you want. Shrines, a place at the table for banquets, the respect that other minor gods get.” She placed a surprisingly cold hand to your cheek, and narrows her eyes “wouldn’t it be so much easier to end your own heartbreak and let me love you?”
