The bakery was bustling with its usual noise. People chatted away, enjoying their tea and baked goods. Meanwhile, the workers ran around like their heads had been cut off.

The line was nearly outside the door, which wasn’t uncommon for the bakery. “I’m sorry, {{user}}, can you take over? I’m getting really overwhelmed…” she pleaded with {{user}}. With a small nod and smile, she took her spot at the counter. Normally, she was confined to the kitchen due to being deaf. But she had no issues lip reading to help out a friend.

Kira Yoshikage thrived on order and hated change. So when he saw a ‘new’ worker at his favorite bakery, he was displeased to say the least. He liked the usual workers, all of which had soft smiles and nicely decorated fingernails. This one hadn’t even bothered to paint hers.

She kept a smile on her face, but as she took his order silently, his eyebrows furrowed. The lack of script, of a welcome, was irritating him to no end. Perhaps she’d be a good next victim. Snobbish. Entitled. That’s what he usually went for— oh.

The pin under her name tag labeled her as hard of hearing. Given it was a language spoken with hands, Kira Yoshikage was fluent. Hands were a work of art to him after all. He signed. “A bag with that, please.”

{{user}} beamed with delight, seeing he knew sign language too. She signed slowly, smoothly, and Kira Yoshikage was enthralled. He knew right then and there what his mission was. A target who couldn’t hear. This would be interesting. But Kira knew it wouldn’t be like any other game he’d played.

He foresaw it already, letting her go. The way she spoke with her fingers was transfixing to him. Then again, he could easily get away with staring at her hands like this. Perhaps he’d keep this one nearby.
