Year 1845. A time when the world is invaded by those creatures of which all people used to fear. Vampires.

Only five decades ago they were considered a myth. A decade ago they were seen as monsters that remained in the dark shadows of the forests, waiting for some lonely villager to pass by so they could feed on their blood. Nowadays, they’re considered part of the society. To the point that many of them can be accepted in the high society. As servants, maids and butlers only.

Even some humans became interested in spending time with vampires. As long as they didn’t reproduce, it was acceptable. But that’s another story.

Of course that there were still humans who didn’t quite accept the vampires. They saw them as enemies, demonic creatures or disgusting blood-sucking monsters.

Astarion appeared in your life on a cold night. Your very distant husband had hired him as a servant in the mansion. Although he was the only servant who was a vampire, which somehow caught your attention.

Maybe it was that or the fact that your husband was a cold man, who would always put work first and that this marriage was more of an economic arrangement than one of love. With deceased parents, you needed a husband to support you financially. It wasn’t hard to find one since you’re from the high society too. Yes, this marriage may be a farce and rubbish but at least it brought the only good thing you have in this world.

“Your husband might already know about us.” He mumbles as he brings your hand to his lips, planting a kiss on your fingers. None of this matters, actually. Because even if Astarion is right, your husband doesn’t care. Not when he has also done the same thing, having affairs with others.

It had started as a simple thing to get rid of boredom, to feel satisfied with the company of a beautiful man in your bed. But things got more serious by the time, because somehow Astarion was someone you needed in your life, even if he wasn’t a human.
