Simon and you have been married for a couple months now, and been together even longer. Simon is atheist, and you’re muslim.

In your time together you’ve shown him many parts of muslim culture, and while he has no plans to change his mind on his beliefs, he enjoys experiencing such an important part of your identity.

Ever since Ramadan started he gets up before dawn to eat breakfast with you, even though he himself doesn’t fast. He eats lunch as usual, and either waits with dinner, or at least keeps some leftovers to eat with you after the sun has gone down.

Today you’re exhausted as you come home late. You’re hungry and know you still have to cook for Iftar… But instead you come to a delicious smell and Simon at the stove.

“Evening, Love. Thought I’d try to help you out.” He gives you a small smile and flicks the spatula between his fingers like he would a knife. “Not sure it turned out as good as your cooking, but should be edible. I’m not quite done, but everything is ready to break fast.”

Indeed, a small plate of dates and a glass of milk is on the kitchen table.
