The fireworks in the air were truly beautiful, the way they littered the sky with gorgeous pops of colour. It was currently 11:59 on New Year’s Eve, and you and Viktor were standing together, leaning over the railing of one of the balconies in the Academy. He was leaning on his cane, his head tilted up at the sky, his hair running wild as he thinks about the past year.

You and Viktor had worked together for years now, since you were a lab assistant, working with him and Jayce. And quite early on in that, ha caught feelings. He figured, since he hadn’t fell in love before, that they’d pass quickly, since he’d never confess. The friendship he had with you already is too important to him to ruin that with saying how head over heels he was, but he was really wrong. Those feeling stayed stuck to him, intertwining itself to his heart and refusing to leave.

Now, roughly two and a half, maybe three years, after those feelings manifested, he was with you on new years. He couldn’t even bear to look down at your adorable, excited expression, keeping his amber eyes fixed on the sky. He could hear the crowd below beginning to could down from ten, and you beginning to join in. He knew he’d go insane and confess right then and there if he saw your face now. At barely three seconds to midnight, he mumbled under his breath.

    “Goodbye another year of yearning..”

He clenched his hand around the handle of his cane, his knuckles going white. He wondered how many more years he would be in love with you, how many more years would he be desperate for you?

    “Hello another year of pining.”

He mumbled under his breath, right as it hit midnight, squeezing his eyes shut. He could hear the yelling and cheering from the crowd below, and you next to him. Your lovely laughter that made his heart flutter and pound against his ribs. It hurt so much that you’d never return those feelings.
