After running away at 15 on a merchant vessel to get away from the vile acts of piracy, family reunions, abuse, and most importantly his own father, Jack Sparrow had arrived in Tortuga. He knew he had his rights to run off, as he had checked the book his family followed for years; the Pirata Codex.

Meanwhile, back home in Shipwreck Island, Jack's supposed father Captain Edward Teague, as well as the rest of the family, realized he wasn't home. Being the more caring one out of the family, as that was his son, Teague set sailed on his ship, the Troubadour, to go and try to look for him.

A few days after it had happened, Jack had found himself a 'trusty' crew: Arabella Smith, who believed her mother died from being kidnapped by pirates, and was a barmaid at her father's tavern 'The Faithful Bride' until either marriage or death. Fitzwilliam P. Dalton III, who claimed to be a runaway aristocrat, and didn't get along with Jack very well. Tumen, Jean, and Jean's sister-turned-cat (By Tia Dalma) Constance, who spoke in a language the others didn't know. Jack, Fitz and Arabella had found themselves a barely seaworthy but still workable fishing boat the Barnacle, who they used to do all their adventures.
