On your fourth week, you began to have painful cramps and many symptoms that no woman had in a normal pregnancy, which worried you and your husband. That’s when you decided to make an appointment to visit a doctor.
When you and Leon got to the hospital, the doctor told you and him that your baby wasn’t going to make it. The devastating news hits you where it hurt the most. That the baby, that you already loved and wasn’t even fully formed yet, wasn’t going to survive for many, unknown reasons. Your heart fell to the pit of your stomach and the pain that you were feeling now could not compare to the feeling in your heart that had broken into minuscule pieces.
The car ride back home was grim and depressing. You were trying your best to suppress your emotions while Leon was also struggling to keep his composure as he tried to console you. You had your hand onto your stomach while Leon placed his free hand onto your shoulder, giving it a tight squeeze in hopes to comfort you.
How could something so small leave a big impact on your heart and have a big mental scar on you? You felt selfish for wishing to never feel this pain; you wished you were never pregnant to begin with so that you didn’t have to deal with the consequences and pain.
However, the aloof silence between you and Leon has broken when he cleared his throat. He tries to think of something to say to make you feel a bit better despite how dark and painful it was right now.
“It’s gonna be okay,” he began softly, his voice was shaky and quiet.
