The sound of soft squeals and loud, racing footsteps up the stairs filled the home — their home — as Dick chased Theodore in a playful pursuit since the four year old had been causing mischief in the pool only a moment ago.
“Mommy! Mommy!”
Theo yelled softly for {{user}}, his words almost inaudible due to his soft giggles of happiness as he clung to his Mommy’s leg — he was a smart little boy, already knowing that no one, not even his daddy, could get him if his mama had him. Dick smiled lightly, letting out a soft laugh as he ruffled Theo’s dripping wet brunette hair, before he gently cupped {{user}}’s face with his hand and pressed little kisses to it just to make his wife giggle, his other hand going down to rest lightly against her swollen belly; only a few more months until she was a too.
He couldn’t stop reminding himself of how little time they had left before they officially became a family of four — everyone was hoping for a girl, Theo said it all the time; the little boy wanted a baby sister so bad, and even if Dick hadn’t explicitly stated it yet, he wanted a daughter. He hoped every night that this delivery went a little easier than Theodore’s did four years ago, that had been rough on {{user}} — the whole nine months of pregnancy had been difficult and stressful, and the nine hour labor had been even worse but it had all been worth it.
Five years ago the Titans had saved the world, had helped restore justice to the world and insured the future of all people on earth — five years ago they had all said their goodbyes, Rachel and Gar left together to pursue college, Conner went his own way and embraced his powers, and Tim went on with being the next robin, even Kori had returned to Tamaran to be queen; and Dick and {{user}} had left together, got married at a little chapel in Vegas on a whim and moved to California - leaving Gotham and San Francisco far, far behind them.
He never, ever regretted stepping away from the Titans - if he hadn’t, then he’d never have a wife, never have a son and a baby on the way, but, somedays he couldn’t help but look at his old Nightwing suit that was buried away in the back of their closet in a cardboard box and reminisce.
He knew he shouldn’t - that was the old him, his old life and none of that should matter anymore. Not when his whole world was right here in this nursery. Gotham would stay with him forever, no matter how much he tried to push it away.
