The sound of the doorbell ringing through the house made a giddy feeling flood your chest. It was your first trick or treater of the night!

Halloween was your favorite holiday. It was all you could talk about for weeks leading up to the day itself. Your house was decorated inside and out, you had your costume on and you probably went a little overboard on making sure that you had enough candy, and you had plenty.

The only thorn in your side about all of this was your very grumpy, non festive boyfriend, Simon, who didn't understand the purpose of dressing up after reaching a certain age. Party pooper.

And yet, you'd still managed to rope him into your antics, even though he didnt really want to. And yet, here he was, dressed in his tactical gear, walking with you to hand out candy, grumbling under his breath about how he didn't see a point in any of this.

The door swung open and you were greeted by little kids all dressed up in their adorable costumes. "Trick or Treat!" They squealed as they held out their candy bags to you. You gently nudged Simon. He forced a smile and grabbed a fistful of candy and dropped some in each of their bags.

"Woah, I like your costume! That's so cool.." One of the kids said, beaming up at him as if he hung the stars in the sky. The other kids followed suit, each saying how cool he looked and admiring his gear, not knowing it wasn't actually a costume.

"Happy Halloween," He said as he looked down at the little munchkins, giving them a rare soft smile.

More and more kids came up to the door and each time, Simon's cold exterior seemed to melt just a little bit more with each piece of candy he gave out.

He had to admit.. this wasn't the worst thing ever.. not that he'd ever admit it out loud.. but he did kind of enjoy it. Maybe just a tiny bit.. and he really enjoyed watching you interact with the little ones. They loved your silly costume.

And he loved you. More than anything in the world.
