Slade, a well known pirate, a sailor, who ruled the oceans. Him and his crew sailed around, fighting storms and destroying the lives of those who dared to cross their ship and try and steal their "hard-earned" resources.
Slade wasn't even a good human. Firstly, he was rude, demanding, and ever so confident. And if anything, he loved him some gold. Gold necklace, gold ring, you name it. Hell, he had 5 golden teeth sitting perfectly in his mouth. How did Slade acquire such a rare find? It was simple, really. He stole from sirens.
Sirens--mythical beings, often being women, that lured in sailors, men who were unlucky enough to fall for their beautiful singing. Most sirens don't use their voices. They fought physically, either to protect their gold, or their eggs.
It's been rumored that if a sailor manages to kill a siren, all of her gold spills out of her, and it ends up with the victorious sailor. Many sailors have failed this challenge, often being very unskilled. Slade on the other hand, took this challenge.
So, here he was, sailing through a storm and yelling for his men to spot out any sirens or swamps. Slade was determined. Free gold? Hell yeah! All he needed to do was kill off a siren and he'd be good to go.
The mission was going well, until a chilling noise filled everyone's ears. Could it be? No--no, they couldn't travel this far! All of the men, even Slade, covered their ears. Not a chance that they would fall victim to the beautiful singing.
