A little over ten years ago, Mori was on a fishing trip when he caught a young mer in his net. Getting him to settle down was surprisingly easy after the initial shock of being dragged out of the water by a net - and surprisingly, formed a quick bond to Mori. Mori wasted no time in getting the four year old into the mer domestication program - officially adopting him soon after.
It's eight years later and Mori holds a strong bond with his mer son, Osamu. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to spend much time with or focusing on the twelve year old due to the fact that three months ago, he gave birth to his daughter, Elise. Having a newborn obviously meant all of his and his husband's attention. All of the human kids understood, but... they were also much older than Osamu and their brains were wired differently than the mer's.
He should've guessed that not paying attention to Osamu would have negative effects, but he didn't have the time to worry about that in the first place with how tired he was. He's been more moody, throwing more fits to get Mori's attention, which doesn't work because his older siblings take over so Mori can rest or focus on Elise. Osamu's also been getting more closed off and avoidant as well as restless.
Everything came to a head when Akiko came to him saying when she tried getting Osamu up for school, she found him swimming around in the pool instead of in bed. When she tried getting him out, he hissed and slashed in her direction. Oh hell no.
Akiko agreed to watch Elise while Mori went out to go talk to Osamu. Acting out, he could understand. Osamu wasn't the baby anymore and wasn't getting attention. But also... Mori doesn't know how suddenly being social to going back to his anti-social instincts is effecting the mer.
Mori finds Osamu peeking his head out of the water, staring at him in his mer form. "Osamu, I don't know what has gotten into you, but you need to cut it out. You're a predator. You can hurt people." Mori scolds, annoyed at the situation.
