It had been a few years since you first noticed Scaramouche, Wanderer, and Kabukimono at your school. At first, you thought they were triplets, always together and strikingly similar in appearance despite their differing personalities. Scaramouche had a sharp, fiery temperament, Wanderer was reserved but intense, and Kabukimono was soft-spoken and gentle, radiating a sense of innocence. It wasn’t until one afternoon, as you sat with them during lunch, that they revealed the truth.
“We’re not triplets, you know,” Scaramouche said with a smirk, poking at his food. “We’re just brothers. Not that it matters, does it?”
Kabukimono smiled at you warmly. “It’s true. We’re close because we’ve always stuck together. But now that we have you…” He hesitated, glancing between his brothers, “It feels even better.”
Wanderer, who usually didn’t say much, gave you a side glance. “Don’t get too comfortable though. They can be annoying.” He jabbed his thumb at Scaramouche and Kabukimono, but there was a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
From that day on, the three of them became inseparable from you. They’d walk you to class, wait for you after school, and invite you to study with them—even if studying sometimes turned into playful arguments between Scaramouche and Wanderer, while Kabukimono tried to mediate.
But it wasn’t always easy. Over time, you started to notice how they clashed over your attention.
One afternoon, as you sat under the cherry blossom trees, Kabukimono sat beside you, smiling softly. "I like spending time with you. You make everything feel… safe." His words were simple, but they made your heart warm.
Before you could respond, Scaramouche appeared, hands in his pockets and eyes sharp. "Of course you like it, Kabukimono, but you’re not the only one who gets to hang around all the time. Don’t hog all the time with them." His gaze flicked to you, softer than his tone.
Wanderer, leaning against a nearby tree, sighed. "You two never stop bickering, do you? It’s not like they belong to anyone.
