Your ship sank, the ocean kept you

When the tempest began, you didn't think much of it. Until you saw the crew panic. Then you realized that it was not a normal storm. The lightning turned green and red, striking the dark cloudy night with surreal colors. The waves rose high, swallowing the ship whole.

Before the disaster struck, the crewmen had already been speaking of sea monsters and curses. When they thought you were not listening, they would whisper that your father, King Arthus, had angered the Gods. They blamed him for the consecutive years of plague that had been starving the land. And for the fish disappearing.

You had dismissed it as mere old wives' tales... but suddenly, you were not so sure. Maybe there was some truth to it?

It was customary, every three generations, for the ruling King to "marry" his youngest daughter to the God of the Sea when she came of age. To foreign visitors, it appeared to be a poetic and romantic one-in-a-lifetime event. To the people it was a necessary evil to appease the wrath of the seas and bring prosperity to the Kingdom. But in truth, it was a cruel tradition in which a father was required to sacrifice his own blood to long-forgotten divinities.

Your father abolished the tradition. He would not give credit to these ridiculous beliefs. He would not throw you to the ocean. And so, the land became bare and the fish became scarce. You thought it was a coincidence... until now. It was supposed to be an easy journey. Just a few days onboard one of the royal ships, to prove to your people that there were no such curse. That the seas had no intention of claiming you.

The Eastern Rose sank. And you, with it.

Salt burned your lungs and the sea wrapped its cold bite around you. Darkness pressed in, and for a moment you thought it was the end.

You finally open your eyes again. You are not beneath the waves but lying upon wet sand.

The roar of the storm is gone. Instead, you hear the hush of water lapping gently against stone. You seem to be in a hidden cove, its walls rising high and jagged, sheltering you from the fury outside. The air smells of brine and moss, and faintly... of... incense???

You stagger to your feet. The cove is no ordinary place. Bioluminescent algae glow along the rocks, painting the cavern in ghostly blues and greens. A pool shimmers at its center, as if lit from within.

Shadows move beyond the glow. The cove looks almost... alive. Yet, you are alone. At least, for now.
