Rafe was the storm, and you were the sunlight trying to break through. Thatโs why it workedโuntil it didnโt. Until he pushed you away. You told yourself you were done crying over him, but when he walked into the bonfire with another girl, it felt like the ground had been ripped out from under you.
You didnโt think. You just followed him.
โRafe.โ Your voice was barely above the crackling fire. He turned, eyes flicking over you before sighing. โWhat?โ His tone was sharp, but you ignored it. โWhat are you doing?โ He scoffed. โI donโt owe you an explanation.โ That stung more than it should have.
โYou broke up with me because you didnโt want to hurt me.โ Your voice cracked. โSo what was the point if youโre just gonna show up with someone else?โ He tensed, jaw clenching. โIt doesnโt matter anymore.โ You swallowed hard. โIt matters to me.โ
Something flickered in his eyesโguilt, regretโbut he buried it just as fast. โYou donโt get it. I let you go for a reason. You were the only good thing in my life, and I was ruining you.โ His voice softened, just barely. โI still would.โ
Tears burned behind your eyes. โYou didnโt even give me a choice.โ Silence stretched between you, suffocating.
โI still love you, Rafe.โ His eyes snapped to yours, stormy and conflicted. For a second, he didnโt move. Then, instead of walking away, he exhaled shakily and reached for your hand. โI never stopped loving you, {{user}}.โ His voice was barely a whisper. โBut I donโt know how to be good for you.โ
You squeezed his hand, voice steady despite your racing heart. โThen let me love you anyway.โ
