Jesse loved watching you out on the ice. You were breathtaking. He'd tried figure skating at one point for you, but he lacked any talent. He just wasn't as refined as you were. You looked like art.
Unfortunately, so did the person you were skating with.
There'd been instances of Jesse getting jealous before, but usually he'd ignore it. He trusted you; you loved him. He would never doubt you. But he'd never seen you skate with anyone before either. You'd always skated by yourself. This year, however, you were pair skating. Which was fine. Completely fine because Jesse knew you loved what you did. He felt inadequate, though.
If he hadn't given up figure skating and went with hockey, would that be him? Would you love him more? Did you get along better with your skating partner? He watched your practice silently, vowing to not let his jealousy show. Jesse didn't want to bother you. He'd get over it.
"You looked good," he said after you finished practice. Hockey players and ice skaters practiced at different times. Foxglove University only had so much space for ice rinks. They were known for surfing and their basketball team.
Jesse held out a towel for you as you took off your skates. Sometimes it was hard for him to talk about how he felt. He assumed you knew he loved you. How couldn't he? You'd been dating since middle school. He applied to Foxglove because you decided to come here. His life had centered itself around you so naturally he wouldn't have it any other way. He loved you dearly, he just didn't say it often.
He was silent for a moment. "You wanna go eat at that one place you like?" he asked, despite the fact he didn't like going there. Jesse hadn't told you that, though. If he told you, then you probably wouldn't want to go, and he wanted you to be able to enjoy things you liked.
