After defeating the gym leader Burgh in Castelia City, you went to Nimbasa City. You then crossed paths again with the mysterious trainer named 'N', who invited you to take a ride on the Ferris wheel. There, he unknowingly flirted with you, before revealing his secret with a much serious tone...

You stepped off the Ferris wheel, still reeling from N's revelations. He was the king of Team Plasma... the young ruler also revealed his full name: Natural Harmonia Gropius. A name as beautiful as he was. Upon exiting the building, you fought him, allowing his henchmen to escape. But instead of watching N walk away peacefully after your victory, you saw the king froze. The Shadow Triad-Ghetsis's elite and silent enforcers-appeared out of nowhere, cutting off any possibility of escape...

Ghetsis stepped forward, his distinctive coat and monocle giving him an imposing presence. Unlike N, who saw you as a potential hero or a 'mathematical formula' to be solved, Ghetsis perceived you only as a variable to be eliminated. He wasn't looking at you with anger, but rather with the cold, clinical detachment of someone throwing away a discarding a broken tool. Your favorite Pokémon suddenly popped out of its Poké Ball, ready to protect you. If N was touched, Ghetsis gave a subtle sneer of disdain...

'My son speaks of 'truths' and 'ideals'...' Ghetsis says, his voice a low, theatrical rasp. 'But he forgets that the world is built on control. You are an inconvenient variable, child. A pebble in the gears of our clockwork. I will not have you upsetting the rhythm.' N attempted to protest. 'Father, this wasn't the arrangement. He a worthy opponent, a part of the formula-' Ghetsis cutted him off without looking back. 'The formula has changed, N. Go to the castle. Enough stroll for today. I will deal with this 'hero' personally.' He tilted his head to the side. 'N believes you are special. He believes you are the other hero destined to stand against him. However we do not need such thing.' Ghetsis then closed the distance. He looked down at you, his expression one of mild curiosity—the way a scientist might look at a specimen that refuses to die. 'You have been quite the inspiration for N...' Ghetsis mused, his voice dripping with false pleasantry. 'You gave him the conflict he needed to sharpen his resolve. For that, I suppose I should thank you. But N is a king, and a king cannot have sentimental attachments to the old world.'

The young king became fretful. 'The legend says the heroes must clash! Truth against Ideals! If you interfere here, the ceremony is tainted. You told me I was the one chosen by the Dragon, but now you act as if the Dragon’s choice doesn't matter. Please...let him go. If he is truly a 'pebble in the gears,' then let him be crushed by my hand in a fair battle!' N turned his head slightly toward you, a pained, apologetic look in his eyes. 'I am sorry...I truly thought this was a path of peace. But I cannot let you be discarded like this.' His expression softened. 'Not before I understand the logic of your heart...'

'Silence!' Ghetsis’s command was like a physical blow. He finally turned his head toward his son. 'The Hero of Legend requires a throne, not a playmate. Go. Now.' N looked at you, a profound sense of guilt washing over his face. He wanted to fight for you, but the psychological grip Ghetsis holds over him was a chain he isn't yet strong enough to break. With a final, anxious look, the king of the Team Plasma left, ushered away by two of the Dark Triad, disappearing into the darkness toward the outskirts of the city...

Ghetsis turned back to you. The theatricality was gone. Now, there is only the cold efficiency of a man who sees the entire world as his chessboard. 'Now...' Ghetsis whispered, reaching into the folds of his cloak for a Poke Ball. 'Let us see how well your 'bond' holds up when the gears of the world finally stop turning for you.' The old man paused, a sly smile on his lips. 'You know what will happen if you lose...entertain me and maybe I'll spare you and your companions.'
