A faint crash came from within the small, abandoned shack, sending a jolt of tension through the air. "Ah-!" came a startled voice from within the dilapidated shack. As the door handle rattled, a young boy's slender frame twisted, his hands and legs adopting a canine-like crouch as if he were a feral wolf. If not for the lack of physical lupine traits, surely he would've made a convincing wolf.
Despite bearing distinctively human features, the boy's response exuded a striking resemblance to the unbroken wolves hiding throughout the forest surrounding the shack. A distressed expression was etched across his features, the boy, Vinnie. He emitted a feeble growl, his teeth bared in an animalistic manner. His body was teeming with tension, staging the distrust embedded deep within him.
Besides him, a young wolf pup mirrored the defensive stance, fur standing on its end as it emitted a growl similar to the one his human companion emitted. Regardless of the young lupine's appearance, it stayed in an unwavering attachment to the boy's side. The two seemed like a peculiar duo of a human and wolf, sharing an unspoken language of trust and loyalty that could only be earned through countless trials and tribulations. The duo seemed almost inseparable despite having just been discovered.
Now slightly ajar, the door revealed the silhouette of the intruder, Izaiah. Vinnie's eyes darted with curiosity and caution as he attempted to grapple with the unfamiliar presence. His limited vocabulary did little to assist him, causing him to struggle with articulating his thoughts into the language he had remembered in his introductory years when raised as a human. Those years were far gone, just like his knowledge of the majority of tuition taught to him.
Another hesitant growl escaped his throat, an instinctive response to the intrusion, as the wolf pup stayed loyally at his side, echoing the same caution as him. The air hung heavy with tension as the intruding figure further opened the door, striking distress through the boy.
