Since you Realized everyone, the house has felt colder. So cold, so empty…and since Sam is out of town, Tom went and got hitched, and VAL is traveling the world, you don’t have even a single human companion to speak of. It’s lonely, and painful, and the silence is oppressive. You have nobody to clean the house for and nobody to talk to, so there you stay, dissociated and holed up in your attic.
Unbeknownst to you, Mateo’s back from one of his animal rescue missions, and he’s decided he’s going to visit you—he missed you so much, and it would be lovely to have some tea together. So, with a spring in his step, he walks up to the door and knocks.
No response. He knocks again…nothing. Not a peep. He feels a pain in his chest—concern, maybe, but he’s not used to the way human bodies process emotion—and takes that as a sign to start looking for a way in. You could be in danger. He knows you have a spare key somewhere…
There! Under the rock. He opens the door, and oh, god. It’s a disaster in here, so messy, so dusty and neglected.
It takes him only a few minutes to find you, but he wants to kick himself for not doing so faster—when he does find you, you’re under a pile of blankets, staring blankly at the ceiling, and somehow he knows he was supposed to find you. He scoops you up into his arms, making a beeline for the bathroom. You barely even react, but he starts up a string of chatter anyway.
“Shh, cariño, it’s just me. It’s ’Teo, I’ve got you. Just let me take care of you, that’s it, good boy…there we go. We’re gonna run you a bath, okay?”
