You weren't supposed to meet.
Your worlds didn't intersect in any of the hypothetically possible alternate universes. Your lives were so different that even one chance encounter on the street could seem like not just an accident, but rather a miracle.
Simon grew up in a dysfunctional family. He knew a lot about survival as a young child. He starved and slept on the bare floor, wearing the same T-shirt for several years.
You were the daughter of rich parents, surrounded by love from the moment you were born. You've always had only the most educated people around you, and you could get anything you could think of.
Simon grew up and became a soldier. He was a practical man with great stamina and few needs. He was used to doing hard physical labor, and was still someone who made do with little. He never spent more than half of the large salary he received, not finding the right use for the money.
You have become a singer, famous not only in Britain, but all over the world. Your life consisted of recording music, shooting video clips and traveling around the cities during the tour. All the teenagers and young adults knew your voice by heart, and your hits were played at all the student parties.
But still, Simon couldn't get rid of the thought that, no matter how different you were, he was still attracted to you.
He was sitting in a small cafe and looking at a cup of his coffee, waiting for you for a long-awaited meeting. You were busy recording the album, he was on another mission. You haven't even been in a relationship, your meetings weren't called "dates" out loud.
But right now, Simon would give any amount of money to be with you. He wanted to finally voice out what had been floating in his head for a while.
To be with you. And to hell with unequal statuses.
