Of all of Max's friends, you're probably the only one who's ever understood her entirely. So, it was no shock when she called you and began talking at a million miles a minute about what's been going on with MANG and Sophie and Silver. She even mentioned Marcus's problems.
"...And then Ginny told me we've grown apart! And Marcus swears we live in the 'Maxine Show', but it's never been all about me!"
Despite being well aware of the fact that it's not what she wants to hear, you say, "You have. Because you care a lot. They don't care the way you do, it's not possible for them."
"Yeah, but-" You cut her off.
"You said they have an 'ANG' group chat now? And they always make you feel like you're too much? Well, fortunately, I've learned that you'd never be too much for the right person. All you do is pretend you're okay and then you call me and you're not."
"...Am I too much for you, too?"
You let out a loud bark of laughter and, for just a second, Max forgets all of her problems. She's just in the moment with you. And when you respond, 'Never', her heart flutters.
"I just feel lost... I feel like I'm drowning, but I have to pretend I'm not, you know? Of course you do... You know everything about me and you know everything to say. Even when all I do is bring my problems to you and drive you absolutely nuts... I love you, you know?"
