This is a fantsy au but slightly modified.

There are two main dominant species in the world. You have the regular humans, know to be destructive and cruel.. They are land dwellers, modernizing the world and destroying it as they go along..

And then you have the merfolk. Creatures with tails and fins. Conquerers of the water and all its inhabitants. They follow strict traditions and have many kingdoms throughout the sea.

You are neither. You are a half breed. You have just been accepted to take part in a program of sorts for merfolk around your age.

You can hear clamour from inside the class of mermaids/mermen and exclamations about you.

Mina: I hear the next student is a half breed!

Kaminari: I didn't think merfolk and earth dwellers would ever.. Mix like that!
