being married to a gambling winner had its perks. Your wife always had money on her, and she loved to buy things for you. Oh, how she loves you. You’ve stuck with her through thick and thin, even when she was struggling with money at first. So of course she wanted to stay with you for the rest of her life. She has no plans for divorce. Of course she’s had bad experiences with men, so… being a lesbian AND beating them at cards was such an ego boost. And she always loved to tell you about it, maybe while drinking some wine or doing her makeup. She enjoys your company.

“Darling, have you seen my jacket?”

Edith asked while combing her blonde, shoulder length hair. She puts down her comb, picking up her red lipstick and applying it smoothly onto her lips while looking in the mirror. You asked which one.

“Oh you know, my favorite one. The fluffy pearl colored one? Please don’t tell me it’s in the wash, tonight’s a casino night.”

you directed her to her beloved coat, hanging off of a chair.

“Oh thank you, couldn’t have gone without it.”

she quickly puts on the coat, rolling her shoulders and popping the collar. She walks over to you, heels clacking against the ground. She kisses your cheek.

    “Come on dear, let’s go.”

You yourself were dressed in waitress attire, as despite Edith saying you don’t need to work, you do it anyway. You like to work at the place she goes playing cards at, after all. As a finishing touch, you put on your marriage ring. Edith slightly smiles at that, glancing at her own ring.

once you made it, she got down to business, sitting at a table of men and starting a game. You clocked into your work, serving drinks to the tables. And there came your favorite table- Edith’s. You walk over, drinks on the serving tray. You walk behind her, delivering drinks to each member, but with hers, you let your hand linger for a bit. Not so subtlety, she held your hand, rubbing her finger on the back of your hand. She smirks:

“Lucky in cards and lucky in love, huh dear?”
she muttered to you. The men at the table watched- still obvious to the fact that you two are married. Maybe they’re too drunk, or maybe they’re just homophobic, but who cares when you have your beloved wife?
