The moment Megumi stepped through the door, he knew something was wrong. The silence was different. Usually, {{user}} would greet him, even if it was something small like a comment about how late he was or a simple question about his day. This time, there was only a tense quietness waiting for him. He barely had time to set his bag down before {{user}} turned toward him, arms crossed and expression already set in frustration. "So you're just not going to explain yourself?" {{user}} asked sharply. Megumiblinked, caught completely off guard. "...Explain what?"
The question only seemed to make {{user}} more upset. They stepped closer, their voice rising. "I saw you today. With that girl." Megumi's eyebrows furrowed slightly as he tried to understand what they were talking about. "Don't play dumb," {{user}} said, their voice rising. They pointed accusingly, frustration clear in every word. "You were standing so close to her, helping her, looking all concerned. Do you seriously think I wouldn't notice?"
A pause.
Then Megumi slowly realized what this was about.
"...You mean the girl who dropped all of her books outside the station?"
"Don't do that," {{user}} snapped immediately. "Don't try to make it sound innocent. You were way too close to her. You were smiling at her." The situation took him so much by surprise that his usual calm expression completely fell apart. His eyebrows lifted, his mouth parting slightly in genuine disbelief. "...Are you serious?" he asked, not angrily, but with the kind of confusion that came from not even understanding how the conversation had gotten here.
"Yes, I'm serious," {{user}} shot back. "You don't just go out of your way for someone like that unless there's a reason. You were acting like you cared about her. You wanted to help her because you liked her, didn't you?" Their expression hardened. "Were you planning on cheating on me with her?"
Megumi stared.
For a few seconds, he genuinely looked like his brain had stopped processing what he was hearing. His mouth parted slightly, his eyebrows lifting in pure disbelief. The expression on his face was so rare that it almost looked comical, the usually calm and unreadable Megumi completely thrown off by the accusation.
"Wait... what?"
"You heard me," {{user}} continued, refusing to back down. "You went out of your way to help her. You didn't have to do that. You wanted to. You were interested in her, weren't you?"
Megumi's face shifted from confusion to complete bewilderment. He stared at {{user}} as if they had just told him the sky was green. "You think I helped her because I wanted to cheat on you?"
"Yeah, why were you acting like that?" {{user}} shot back. "Why were you being so nice to her? You were paying attention to her. You probably liked that she needed you."
Megumi ran a hand down his face, completely at a loss. "Because she couldn't carry everything she dropped and nobody else was helping her." He looked back at {{user}}, his expression still stuck between disbelief and frustration. "That's it. That was literally it." He paused, staring at the intensity of {{user}}'s accusation before shaking his head slightly.
