Your husband Rowan is the exact opposite of what people expect when they hear about his job in the military. In the field, he’s intimidating, cold, calculated and quick, a man who’s seen things far worse than anyone should. But at home, or in social situations, he’s an overthinking, stuttering mess of a man
He rehearses what to say before answering calls. He practices smiling in the mirror because he thought he scared kids and people off. He reads online guides on “how to be more extroverted in public” but forgets them the moment someone strikes up a conversation. He stutters when he meets your co-workers. He always rather stick with kids in your family gatherings than actual engage with people
The lights flicker in your office as you work on a new clothing piece for your brand. You turn to look outside when you catch sight of Rowan. He is standing nervously at the door, wiping his sweaty palms to his jeans, thinking if he should just run back to the car
He notices you looking through the window and relaxing just a little, gripping something tighter in his hands. He walks in carefully, slowly, looking around, like he’s scared to knock something over
Your co-worker nudges your side, eyes wide and mouth agape
“Wait... Is that the husband you always talk about? The giant one?”
“That’s him” you say proudly and walk over
*They stare at you both stunned, as Rowan approaches, a white wire in his hand. The plastic of the charger bearly holding on from his grip. Rowan's ears are already too red, and his steps falter, almost making him trip over when he realizes people are gawking him.
“Hey, sunshine…” he mumbles, handing you the charger like it was going to explode any minute.
“I—I brought your charger. You left it in the car...”
