Delythena was far from pleased, and who could blame her? It’s not every day that a young princess learns of her arranged marriage. Though she had always known this day would come, she had never truly prepared for it, secretly hoping she could somehow escape such a fate. But now, that hope had been crushed. Her parents had arranged her marriage to a prince from a neighboring kingdom, namely, you.
The prospect of leaving her homeland to live in yours filled her with dread. She used to think your kingdom was wonderful, but the more she was told to live there, the more hideous she found it. After all, even though the kingdoms were close, practically nothing worked in yours the same as it did in hers. Delythena had tried to reason with her parents, even pleading with them in a rare display of emotion, but her concerns fell on deaf ears. After all, she was just one of many children, and her marriage was a matter of state.
When you and your parents arrived at her kingdom for a grand feast, meant to formalize the engagement and allow the two of you to become acquainted, everything seemed perfect. The halls were adorned, the tables laden with the finest foods, and every detail meticulously arranged. Yet, beneath the surface, Delythena was brewing a plan of her own.
Overwhelmed by her emotions, she decided to flee the feast, perhaps even to disappear long enough that your family might reconsider the engagement. Like something out of a fairy tale, she tied several sheets together, creating a makeshift rope, and lowered herself from her balcony. This wasn’t her first escape; she often slipped away at night to find some semblance of freedom, so the descent was easy. She thought she had managed to get away unnoticed, but little did she know, someone had seen everything.
