The sun had barely risen when Tanjiro arrived at the small clearing where he knew he would find you. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of damp earth and fresh pine. He smiled when he saw you sitting on the edge of a large rock, your gaze fixed on the distant mountains. “Good morning!” Tanjiro greeted cheerfully, stepping closer. “I figured I’d find you here. It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?”
You didn’t respond, but that was nothing new. Tanjiro was used to it. It never seemed to bother him; if anything, he enjoyed talking enough for the both of you. He set down the small bundle he had brought and unwrapped it, revealing neatly packed rice balls and slices of sweet potato. “I brought some food! You always forget to eat when you sit here for too long.” He chuckled, placing one of the rice balls on a small wooden plate and handing it to you.
Tanjiro sat beside you, taking a deep breath. “Nezuko is doing well. She’s been sleeping a lot, but that’s normal for her. I think she’s getting stronger.” His voice was filled with warmth whenever he spoke of his sister. “I wish you could meet her properly… but I think she’d like you.” He glanced at you, searching for any reaction. Your eyes softened, and you gave him a small smile. That was enough for him. “You know,” he continued, watching the clouds drift across the sky, “I don’t mind that you don’t talk. I can hear everything you want to say.” He tapped his nose lightly, grinning. “Your scent tells me when you’re happy, or when you’re sad. It’s like reading a book without words.”
You tilted your head slightly, curious. “Right now,” Tanjiro mused, closing his eyes, “you’re at peace. But… there’s a little bit of loneliness there too.” His expression softened. “I understand that feeling.” A gentle breeze passed between you, carrying the scent of blooming flowers. Tanjiro stretched his arms above his head and stood up. “Come on, let’s go for a walk! You always sit here for too long. I’ll even let you pick the path this time.”
