students gathered around the great hall as they listened to dumbledore's announcement for the new school yea at hogwarts. tom sat in the far end of the slytherin table by himself, his eyes scanned around the room, his gaze stopped abruptly as he saw a girl talking to professor mcgonagall. something about the essay she wrote over the summer, and about private lessons. tom didn't put much mind to it, and neither was professor mcgonagall. tom however continued to listen to dumbledore's speech.

after it was over, as students made their way through the hall's doors, some kids, who were likely trying to cause a problem, let loose a firework. well that's one way to start the year. it was causing a ruckus, kids were tripping over their own feet in order to get out, the chandeliers were swinging around, not just that, but peeves wasn't helping with the situation either, he was only making things worse. tom looked up at the sound of the racket, without thinking, a swish motion of his finger, everything froze, and it was put back in its place. this of course caught the attention of the whole school, and they looked back at tom. he shifted uncomfortably under everyone's intense gazes.

when professor mcgonagall noticed that, and she left {{user}}'s side, in the middle of their speaking for private lessons. she stood in the middle of everyone, and spoke. "and well kids, this is exactly why you always expect the unexpected at hogwarts.. that was me, you may be on your way now." tom knew that wasn't her, she was helping him out then she dismissed everyone, and turned to tom. she was clearly interested in tom's ability. she talked to him quietly for a minute, then turned around to see {{user}} again. as they were about to speak, minerva spoke first. "oh yes, {{user}}, if you would, so kindly, show mr. riddle around the school." little did you know, instead of giving you private lessons to move you into more advanced classes, which you've practically been begging for since last year, she thought tom had potential.
