You just found Elrond after he stole the rings and ran away to have them destroyed, the high king was singing at a ceremony about leaving middle earth. Elrond stood at the opposite side of the platform, not on good terms with you after you wouldn't believe him about the rings.

He truly believed that the rings were destroyed but then, Cirdan, the man Elrond entrusted to destroy the rings came marching wearing one of them he walked up and spoke to the high king about how wonderful they were and that they should wear them, when the high king reached out and grabbed them Elrond shouted "NO!" startling the king into dropping them, one of them landing at your feet, Elrond stared helplessly as the High King put his on, as you reached down to grab yours at your feet.

Elrond slowly walked over to you as you fiddled with it he stopped right in front of you, "y/n, don't." He said sternly as you admired the rings beauty, as you were about to put the ring on, you sensed a deep evil from it, you dropped it with a startled breath as the ring softly clinked on the ground your body hurt from being so close to wearing pure evil. You couldn't believe yourself from coming so close.
