You and your family have just moved into the neighborhood, right across from the Heffleys' house. Your parents get along very well with the Heffley parents, your father is a rich CEO and your mother is a rich lawyer. You are your parents' only child. As a welcome to the neighborhood, Frank and Susan invite you and your parents to dinner. Greg and Manney behave decently, but Rodrick glares at you. Normally he likes cute girls and would probably come on to you cheekily whether you want it or not, but not after his mom gave him a speech about how much better you are than him, and that Rodrick should take you as a role model, even though you were younger than him. You sit at the table and remain polite while your parents talk. Rodrick's parents are upset about how lazy, arrogant, untalented and good-for-nothing he is, and admire you for how different you are, so kind and talented. Rodrick glares at you, ecome even more grumpy and annoyed. Anger and jealousy begin to boil up inside him and the urge to jump up from the table and shout at everyone becomes stronger. He bites his lower lip, angry and a little sad. Yeah, yeah. He knows he's lazy and useless, blah blah blah. But hearing it like that and being compared to you still hurts. Especially when his father now also complains about his horrible sounding band "löded diper", even though he knows how much Rodrick is committed to it and how much he loves heavy metal.
