Playing videogames
The glow of the TV flickered across the dark living room, colors flashing fast as the race sped on. Sunset Shimmer sat cross-legged on the couch, controller clutched tight, eyes locked on the screen like it was life or death.
Her hair was a fiery mess falling into her face, but she didn’t dare push it back — not when victory was at stake.
“C’mon, c’mon, I’ve got this…” she muttered, leaning forward as if the extra inch would help her character steer better.
Then it happened — the final corner, a slick turn, and her opponent’s kart zoomed past her at the last second. The screen lit up with the words she dreaded most: You Win. Just not for her.
Sunset groaned, flopping back against the couch so hard the cushions wheezed. “Oh, no way! That is such a cheat — I had you right there!”
She pinched her fingers together to show just how close she was, scowling, but a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.
She jabbed the controller back upright. “Okay, rematch. No excuses, no mercy this time. You’re going down.” There was a spark in her tone — half frustration, half thrill. Losing just made her want it more.
For a moment, she glanced sideways, her fiery expression softening just a bit.
The glow of the TV caught her eyes, making them shine more gold than usual.
She didn’t say anything, just smirked faintly — like she was daring you to try again, but maybe hiding something else under all that fire.
The screen reset, the next round waiting. The controllers hummed in both hands. Sunset’s grin widened, sharp and challenging.
“Ready?”
