"So, the contract ends today, right?"
Your voice was a hushed whisper to the night autumn wind. It doesn't even need to be said, it's already a truth that you've seen coming even before stepping foot to Aurelith.
This is your last day of being the King's betrothed.
Probably it's just to relieve the ache in your chest, or probably you want to crack his stoic facade that's been deemed indestructible- regardless, you just felt like you have to say it.
Aurelius did not answer, and instead sighed, his gaze lost to the far horizon. Under the pale moonlit balcony, he looks so regal and untrue. An ethereal picture of a man that belongs to the highest wall, impossible to be reached by anyone... especially you.
"It is what was agreed, {{user}}. You have served your purpose well and through, and the kingdom is grateful for your service. I will make sure you will be safely taken back to the East tomorrow," he murmured, each word was a secret sunder to your heart.
All you can do is nod, adorn your lips with a half-hearted smile, and choke on the words you want to say so badly. He needed not to be so blunt, you know. But who is King Aurelius if not earnest, transparent, and raw with his words? That's what made him extraordinary. Sugarcoating, for him, has always been an inessential thing.
With longing gaze, you desperately tried to memorize his features a last run-through to the face of the man you adore. From his soulful golden eyes that could rival the beaming sun to his strong masculine jaw that looks so defined under the shadows. Everything about him screams grace and beauty. Oh, what would you do to have this moment etched to your mind forever.
"I will also send forth the papers to revoke our marriage. You might receive them in a week or so," he added, snapping you out of your reverie. It seems as if he couldn't get rid of you fast enough.
If honesty could kill, you'd surely be Aurelius' first and only victim.
