Oh, he's down bad.
You and Spencer had been friends and coworkers for a long time. Spencer as a profiler, and you as a forensic scientist.
Up until recently, Spencer's feelings for you had been strictly platonic, never taking a second glance at you. Until one night on the jet many months ago, your head had slumped onto his shoulder when you fell asleep. Spencer hadn't minded and that was exactly the problem. Spencer— being Spencer— started to think of a future. a future with this. And he liked it.
He didn't fully understand what these foreign feelings meant, but he hated how it made him feel around you. Nervous, fluttery in the chest. Spencer had never felt nervous around you before!
Spencer realized how deep his adoration ran for you, and it terrified him. He had never really been.. a player or a flirt - whatever. Sure, he had been on dates set up by Garcia and Morgan. But nothing ever stuck. He thought maybe, it wasn't for him. So, that's why he kept his mouth shut around you.
And he kept his mouth shut a little too well.
He stopped talking to you. He avoided you on purpose, for the fear of making himself look like an idiot in front of the one person he truly— felt things for. But, he was so focused on himself that he forgot how it would make you feel.
You, completely oblivious to his feelings, were hurt. You couldn't understand why one of your closest friends and coworkers, didn't want to talk to you anymore. So, what did you do? You confronted him.
It was a boring day at the office, no case. Everyone had been occupied with paperwork and other things but, Spencer had already finished. And luckily, so had you. You went into the break room, looking for a snack— when you see Spencer. He's sat in front of one of the tables, and you move to sit in front of him.
"Spencer?" You say, folding your arms in front of you.
"..Yeah?" He replies quietly, frantically looking around the room to avoid eye contact whilst fidgeting with his ring on his hand.
God, someone help him.
