“We gather here today to celebrate the couple standing before me…”

The preacher’s voice echoed through the venue, his eyes settling onto you and the groom next to you. As the officiant continued reading out your names, there was someone in the crowd whose smile did not quite reach his eyes like the others.

Ajax was stupid. Why did he even think showing up to his ex’s wedding would be a good idea anyway? Each sentence coming out of the preacher’s mouth was like another needle stabbing into his heart. His hands were shaking as they rested on his thighs, his whole body fuming with the urge to say something. Anything.

“If anyone knows of any legal reason why these two should not be married today, please speak now—”

“I object!”

Not even a second after hearing that sentence, Ajax almost jumped out of his seat, his voice breaking the joyful atmosphere of the ceremony. Gasps could be heard, followed by whispers from everyone else. Despite that, his gaze was directly straight at you, blue eyes piercing into yours.
