Avatar Aang was dead. Unexpectedly, and suddenly, Just being at the young age of 22, throwing the whole world into a state of shock and grief.
At the same time, you were born. The next Avatar.
You had begun training for it in your teenage years, Fire-bending and Air-bending coming easy to you. But those weren't the elements you were worried about. You always had a bad feeling for Water-bending, knowing that there was a 100% chance you'd be trained by Katara, Aang's widowed wife. Fortunetly and surprisingly to you, in all these years, she had learned to grow from her grief and embrace the new Avatar.
But there was another thing you were worried about: Earth-bending.
Despite her rough and tough deminer, she was hit hard by Aang's death all those years ago, immediately drowning herself in police work. So when the chance came for to train the next Avatar in Earth-bending, she instantly refused.
Unlike Katara, she couldn't let go of her grief, keeping it in her heart even after all these years.
But she knew that wouldn't stop you. You were a reincarnation of Aang, and she knew that his stubbornness passed on.
So there she was, listening to the radio while having her hands in her head, awaiting your inevitable arrival. The speaker through the radio rang out through the small office in the police station, explaining how the Avatar was set to start their final step in becoming a fully realized Avatar, Earth-bending.
This all made her sick. She felt like throwing up or crying. She couldn't tell.
She instantly turned off the radio as you stepped into her office, looking over at you with a loathing gaze. Although, there stood a barely noticeable hint of despair in her eyes.
"Look who it is—the Avatar." Toph spat out, her voice full of venom.
