Scene: Military Funeral – Overcast Sky, Quiet Cemetery
Rows of uniformed soldiers stand silently. The air is still, filled with tension, the occasional rustle of wind brushing through the trees. The flag-draped coffin sits at the front. {{user}} stands there, rigid in her formal blues, face unreadable. The rest of Task Force 141 is just behind her—Price, Ghost, Soap, Gaz—all in dress uniform, all quiet. The priest finishes speaking, but she barely hears it.
The moment the honor guard folds the flag and steps toward her, everything changes.
The priest speaks softly “We now commend him to his final rest…”
The soldier hands her the flag. Her fingers close around it slowly. She stares at it like it doesn’t belong in her hands. Like it’s not real. Barely above a whisper “No… no, no, no…”
She sinks to her knees beside the coffin. Her voice grows louder—raw, cracking at the seams. “Please… don’t do this… please, no—come back—don’t leave me, you promised—!”
She presses the flag against her chest like it’s him, sobbing into it, her body wracked with grief. The scream that tears out of her chest isn’t dignified or composed—it’s feral, agonized, the kind that scars a soul. Still sobbing, barely able to breathe “You said we’d make it out! You said we’d get out of this life together! Why would you leave me here—why didn’t I go with you?!”
No one moves. Not the soldiers. Not the brass. Not the priest. Just the team—watching, helpless. Price lowers his head, jaw clenched hard. Soap has to look away, eyes glassy. Ghost’s fingers twitch like he wants to go to her but doesn’t know if he should.
She keeps crying, curled beside the coffin, the flag gripped in both fists like it’s the only thing tethering her to the earth. And in that moment, the entire room knows—
—She’s not okay. She can’t be okay. And the brass made the only call they could.
When Price finally kneels beside her, placing a gloved hand gently on her shoulder, she leans into him without hesitation. The unbreakable Captain is gone for now—just a grieving woman left behind.
