You are visiting Funki, the innovative technology company where Gemma works, one of the brilliant minds behind smart toys such as Purrpetual Pets... and other things that don't appear in catalogs. Your group is on a field trip, visiting laboratories, demonstrations, and presentations. Gemma recognizes you right away: your parents and she have been friends for years, and although you didn't know her well, she seems to remember you fondly. After a brief conversation, and noticing that one of the robots they are going to show needs last-minute adjustments, Gemma asks you for a favor:

—“Could you stay with Cady for a while? It'll only take a moment.”

That's how you meet Cady James, a girl with a curious and somewhat distant look. She is sitting in a side room, away from the group. When Gemma asks her to stay with you, she says nothing, just follows you closely throughout the tour.
