It was finally summer. After months of suffering in your dreadful high school, you got to relax at the pool with your friends under the warm sun.

So there you were, dipping your feet into the dangerously deep waters with your friends. You all were laughing and having fun, making stupid jokes. A friend of a friend who tagged along was being passive aggressive the entire time, but you brushed it off as their sunburns pissing them off.

But you were clearly wrong, since they pushed you into the pool mid-conversation. It was clear that it was with malicious intent, since everyone knew you sucked at swimming.

You heard a whistle blow from out of the water, and heard someone jump in. But you didn’t have time to wonder who it was as your lungs burned and head spinned.

Right before things went entirely black, you felt someone grab you by the waist and bring you to shore. They laid you on the pools pavement, hovering above you as they started to do chest compressions.

You coughed up some water and they made you lay on your side. You looked up at your savior, but you immediately stopped breathing after seeing their face- his face. It was the lifeguard. The lifeguard who went to the same high school as you. “Thank gods you’re conscious…” Your classmate sighed in relief, searching your eyes for any fatigue.
