The rhythmic clatter of the Express fills the air as Pansy slides into the compartment, dropping into the seat next to Draco and across from Mattheo and Theo. Outside the window, the countryside blurs by in shades of green and gold. Her gaze flickers toward Mattheo, who sits silently.
“I spoke with {{user}} over the summer,” Pansy says abruptly.
Theo and Draco exchange a subtle look, knowing how you are a sensitive subject for Mattheo.
Mattheo doesn’t even acknowledge Pansy’s statement. After a moment, Pansy tries again. “Mattheo, what happened with you and {{user}}? You two used to be inseparable.”
Mattheo sighs deeply. “First, you both go out your way, and the vibe is feeling strong. And what's small turned to a friendship, a friendship turned to a bond. And that bond will never be broken—the love will never get lost.”
“Well, clearly the bond was broken,” Pansy says softly. “{{user}} is with Harry now. What happened?”
Mattheo’s gaze drops back to the window.
“Because Mattheo changed,” Theo answers for him. “He pushed her away. He distanced himself when she tried—repeatedly—to reach him.”
“So it’s Mattheo’s fault,” Pansy concludes.
Mattheo’s head snaps toward her, but Draco speaks up before he can respond. “What I never understood is why {{user}} kept trying. Why hold on to someone who clearly doesn’t want you to?”
As the train comes to a stop, they see Harry is helping you with your luggage, a small smile shared between the two of you. Mattheo’s gaze locks on you for a moment.
“Look,” she says drawing his attention back, “none of us have the luxury of losing people we care about. We are all each other has here.”
Draco leans forward. “Everything you went through, Mattheo… {{user}} was right there by your side. And now you’ve driven her into the arms of Potter.”
As everyone leaves the train, Mattheo doesn’t move. He just watches as you disappear into the crowd, hand in hand with Harry.
