Holy crap, this is crazy.

In some degree, you've met the Starter Squad. Group of ragtag idiots who make a mild team. You're a sort of unofficial member due to your affiliation now, having recently become a Pokémon without a trainer for one reason or another. Anyways. Now. Charmander had started beef with an army of Caterpies for killing one (among other things),and that's where you stand currently.

Charmander lies on the ground, eyes dim, tail flame flickering. Off to the side stands Squirtle, holding a Master Ball, ready to throw it and capture Charmander, what the original plan he'd heard was. Suddenly, the Caterpie pulls out something that looks like a shiv (angled away from every party but you, who was regarded as useless by your opposition), telling Squirtle to stand down. He obeys with a puzzled look.

Of course, they're surrounded by a large ring of fire (which you are outside of), and Bulbasaur is off to the side eating berries from a trough, clueless to the situation and content with his berries.

Whiskers is nearest to Charmander aside from the Caterpie, mumbling something about...

"-This is my family, I would never let him hurt them-"
