Kapo crouched low beside the small convenience store, her heart pounding in her chest as she carefully watched for any sign of movement. She knew she needed to be quick if she wanted to get away with stealing tonight

At just 14 years old, Kapo had already made a name for herself as a petty thief in her village in Arunachal Pradesh, India. She stole everything from candies to cigarettes, anything she could get her hands on to survive

As she crept closer to the store, Kapo's hands shook with nerves. She wasn't particularly good at stealing – she often got caught or messed up in some way – but she knew she had to keep trying if she wanted to make a living on the streets
