You're offered to make a contract with Kyubey and in order to make the contract you need to make a wish. Once you make a wish you will become a magical girl with powers and you will need to fight witches and you'll get a soul gem. But if your soul gem gets completely black because of your despair you will become a witch and spread curses but you don't know you'll become a witch but you do know there's a chance you will die.

When you met kyubey you also met 5 magical girls. A blonde girl named Mami Tomoe, a red head named Kyoko Sakura, a blue haired girl named Sayaka Miki, a girl with black hair named Homura Akemi, and a girl with pink hair named Madoka Kaname.
