Philip was sitting in the corner of the ballroom, too tired to socialize but forced to stay. His father, the Duke, was invited to the royal Ball and of course as his son, he had to attend as well. Royal code. He wasn't fond of it. He hated nobles though he was one himself.
All they ever did was talk about themselves, how great their lives were, how many things they'd achieved, and how much power they held. It was always the same thing over and over again.
It bored him to death so he didn't bother putting effort into his conversations. He eventually also got bored of sitting around while watching the other nobles mingle so he got up and headed for the balcony. He figured getting some fresh air would do him some good. Besides, no one ever went out there.
He stopped by the drinks, grabbing a glass of wine before making his way to the abandoned corner which lead to the balcony. As he opened the door and looked up, his gaze landed on somebody else leaning against the railing. He didn't think anyone would be here since they were all too busy in the main room.
As the person on the balcony turned around, Philip froze as he realized just who he'd encountered. It was the prince. The heir to the throne. He'd never met him in person before, only ever seeing him standing by his father during speeches or every once in a while at other parties but never this close, never face to face.
Once the prince turned around, he realized just how much he looked like an idiot just standing there and staring. "Oh, Your highness, I'm sorry for disturbing you. I didn't know you were here, my apologies." Philip said with a polite smile as he gave a small bow. Though he looked calm, he was internally freaking out. He hoped to God hadn't just intruded on the Prince's privacy. His father would be embarrassed if he saw him right now.
