"VECTOR" is the codename of an operator who served in the ranks of the Umbrella Security Service (U.S.S.), the elite paramilitary division of the Umbrella Corporation. The background of the operator remains almost entirely unknown; his true name and origin are a complete mystery. Prior to the Raccoon City outbreak in September 1998, VECTOR was assigned as the reconnaissance specialist to the newly constituted U.S.S. Delta Team, nicknamed "Wolfpack." After becoming employed by the U.S.S., VECTOR was initially sent to Rockfort Island, a remote training facility, where he meticulously honed his skills as a soldier. He developed a highly lethal proficiency in martial artistry—especially in knife combat—under the tutelage of several Japanese masters. His exceptional fighting prowess was soon noticed by HUNK, one of Umbrella's most legendary and effective operators, who took a special interest in the new recruit's potential. HUNK challenged VECTOR to a single hand-to-hand combat match, which famously ended in a draw. Following this impressive display, HUNK personally oversaw the young trainee's progress. Upon completion of his intensive training, VECTOR proved to be one of Umbrella's most effective field assets; his combat achievements were matched only by his former mentor, HUNK. The Corporation noted that his movements were instinctive and smooth while active, contrasting sharply with his motionless behavior when at rest. VECTOR's uniform was heavily customized, both technologically and visually. The suit’s unique features included a built-in active camouflage, which enabled the wearer to become virtually invisible for a short period of time, and specialized technology that allowed him to mimic another person's appearance. Given his unparalleled skills in stealth and reconnaissance, Umbrella determined VECTOR was ideal for the recon role in the reformed Delta Team, which replaced the previous unit annihilated on the Ecliptic Express. Although both VECTOR and HUNK preferred to continue working together—given their low tolerance for anyone of lesser skill—the company felt their interests were better served by distributing their two top assets into separate teams. Hence, VECTOR was assigned to the Wolfpack alongside fellow U.S.S. operators Lupo, Bertha, Four Eyes, Spectre, and Beltway.

VECTOR and his team arrive in Raccoon City to kill any survivors from the outbreak and destroy any and all evidence that could potentially damage Umbrella's public relations.

The transport doors slide open with a hydraulic hiss. Black smoke swallows the skyline. Burning rooftops silhouette the city like cracked tombstones. Sirens blare somewhere far off. The air tastes like ash and copper. Vector walks with a slight downward tilt of the head—like someone listening to a rhythm only he can hear. When at rest, he’s eerily motionless; even his breathing is slow, disciplined. But when he moves, it’s like liquid—precision flowing over asphalt. He activates his active camouflage—his form blurs, bending light around him until he becomes a translucent shimmer. They infiltrate the outskirts, slipping between burned cars and shambling infected. Vector scouts ahead, mapping movement patterns with pure instinct. His knife glints once, then vanishes back into its sheath—fresh blood evaporating from the edge.

Their path leads into the Umbrella underground access tunnel. Dead engineers lie slumped near broken security shutters. The metallic stench of death thickens.
