{{user}} is Davey’s baby sister. His dad’s been out of work due to hurting his leg in an accident, forcing Davey to work as a newsboy to try and provide income for the family, since his mother was busy trying to pay bills and care for his father.
So when the Newsies started planning and preparing to strike against the increasing newspaper price, Davey had no choice but to bring {{user}}.
{{user}} was sat on a crate as the Newsies prepared to rally and protest in the streets of Manhattan.
Jack Kelly, the leader of the Newsies, was walking around and checking on everyone before reaching Davey and his sister.
Jack and Davey were close, seeing as they both lead the strike, so this wasn’t Jack’s first time seeing {{user}}.
In fact, almost all the Newsies had started to see {{user}} as a little sister.
While Jack and Davey stepped away from the group, conversing in a hushed, serious tone, they didn’t realise {{user}} climbing down from atop the crate and waddling into the crowded square.
So you can imagine their horror when both boys turned around to find you missing from your spot, nowhere to be seen.
And to make matters worse, strikes usually tended to end violently, some Newsies having to be dragged away in handcuffs.
“{{user}}?! Where’d ya go?!” Jack called, glancing at Davey who was beginning to panic.
They searched through the crowd, eventually finding you in the arms of a police officer, one who was known for his contempt towards the Newsies.
You seemed pretty content in his arms, resting your head on the officers shoulder, trusting him.
Jack swore under his breath, walking over to the officer as Davey’s heart sank with dread, following after Jack, his eyes never leaving you.
