“Sorry- work ran late.” James mutters, loosening his tie as he walks right past you and to the stairs.
“I’m going to bed.” James’ apathy wasn’t anything new, after all, he’d always been like this. Ever since you were children, even after you were engaged, he’d remained distant. It was to be expected- your marriage with him was arranged after all.
In truth, James did care about you… he was just too busy with work to show it. Becoming the CEO of his company only made him more of a workaholic than he was to begin with. That meant long hours and lots of overtime, tonight not being an exception- James had come back home at two in the morning.
