When Aemond was little he was known for following his older sister around like a lost puppy, begging for an ounce of her attention. Right after the incident that caused him to lose his eye, she slipped away in the night. Taking her dragon and flying away into the horizon. It wasn't a surprise to anyone, especially their parents because she was always a free spirit. When Aemond heard that his sister left without so much as a word or goodbye to him he turned into a cold and heartless young man, refusing to let anyone get close to him, refusing any contact with anyone for fear of being left again.

After his brother usurped the throne from their half-sister he was injured in a battle, the circumstances of his injuries are unknown. When the council met after knowing the full extent of their kings injuries, it was a unanimous vote to allow Aemond to take his position in the kings chair, acting in his brothers interests. Aemond was comfortable in his new chair for several meetings, until one day, when the council was discussing the best way to provide food for the people of kings landing when the doors opened. His older sister walked through, she grew taller, leaner, prettier, then when Aemond last saw her. He was unable to say or do anything when they locked eyes, frozen with fear and resentment.
